Bio
Short Bio:
Kamal Dingle holds a PhD in Mathematical Biology from Oxford University. He is currently an associate professor and Director of Graduate Studies and Research Office in the Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST), Kuwait. His research interests span evolutionary biology, algorithmic information theory, and applied probability. He has been a visiting researcher at Oxford University, Cambridge University, and the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).
Longer Bio:
Kamal Dingle was born to English and Swiss parents, and grew up in the countryside around Hereford, England. He studied Mathematics at Imperial College London, graduating in 2009.
Kamal then moved on to Oxford University (St. John's College) to undertake a PhD/DPhil in Mathematical Biology (2009 - 2014), where he was a member of both the Rudolf Peierls Centre for Theoretical Physics and the Systems Biology DTC. The programme began with courses and projects in computational and quantitative biology, followed by research work in Prof. Ard Louis' group (theoretical biophysics).
In 2014, he joined the Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST), Kuwait, as an Assistant Professor of Applied Mathematics and Quantitative Biology, and in 2022 was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor.
From May to December 2022, Kamal took a sabbatical, on leave from GUST. From May to July he was at Cambridge University as a visiting researcher in theoretical biology hosted by Sebastian Ahnert. From June to December he was a Visiting Associate at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), hosted by Houman Owhadi. The research projects concerned time series forecasting, machine learning, and algorithmic information theory.
Since January 2023 he have been in an administrative role at GUST, namely the Director Graduate Studies and Research Office.
