Bio
Short Bio:
Kamal Dingle holds a PhD in Mathematical Biology from Oxford University. He is currently an associate professor and the Acting Director of Graduate Studies and Research Office in the Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST), Kuwait. His research interests span evolutionary biology, algorithmic information theory, and applied probability. He has been a visiting researcher at Oxford University, Cambridge University, and the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).
Longer Bio:
Born to an English father and Swiss mother, I grew up in the countryside around Hereford, England. Having a desire to understand the mathematical structure of the physical world, I went to study Mathematics at Imperial College London, graduating in 2009.
I moved on to Oxford University (St. John's College) to undertake a PhD/DPhil in Mathematical Biology (2009 - 2014), where I was a member of both the Rudolf Peierls Centre for Theoretical Physics, and the Systems Biology DTC. The programme began with courses and projects in computational and quantitative biology, followed by research work in Prof. Ard Louis' group (theoretical biophysics).
In 2014, I joined the Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST), Kuwait, as an Assistant Professor of Applied Mathematics and Quantitative Biology, and in 2022 was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor.
From May to December 2022, I took a sabbatical, on leave from GUST. From May to July I was at Cambridge University as a visiting researcher in theoretical biology (hosted by Sebastian Ahnert), and from June to December I was a Visiting Associate at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) working partly on campus and partly online (hosted by Houman Owhadi). The research projects concerned time series forecasting, machine learning, and algorithmic information theory.
Since January 2023 I have been in an administrative role at GUST, namely the Acting Director Graduate Studies and Research Office.
